Removing paperclips and staples

Removing a pin

Do not press flowers in books. They will stain the pages.

Do not mend paper with pressure-sensitive tape of any kind. It will discolor the paper and is extremely difficult to remove.

Do not try to remove pressure-sensitive tape yourself. It is easy to lift the surface of the paper with it. Tape removal is a job for an expert.

Do not use self-sticking memorandum notes. They leave a slight residue, particularly if left on for any length of time, which will attract dirt in the future. If they become wet, they are very difficult to remove, and fragile leather and other surfaces often adhere to the notes’ adhesive. Their paper is acidic and the color may run.

Do not pile more than a few books on top of each other. There is danger of the pile toppling or a book being knocked off. This is a hazard particularly where there is inadequate processing space. Stack books carefully in order of diminishing size.
